Paint Protection Film (PPF) Installation – Terms and Conditions
Important Notice
These Terms and Conditions form part of the agreement between you (the Customer) and b:spoke (the Installer) for the supply and installation of paint protection film (PPF). By proceeding with the installation, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and accept these terms in full.
1. Nature of Paint Protection Film and Realistic Expectations
PPF is a sacrificial, clear thermoplastic urethane film designed primarily to protect painted surfaces from stone chips, light scratches, abrasion, and certain environmental contaminants. It is not a cosmetic enhancement product intended to create a perfect or invisible finish.
A completely perfect, defect-free installation does not exist. Installation is a skilled manual process performed in a controlled but non-sterile environment. Factors including ambient dust, vehicle geometry, paint condition, film characteristics, temperature, and humidity mean that minor imperfections are an inherent and accepted characteristic of professional PPF work.
The primary purpose of PPF is protection, not absolute visual perfection.
2. Inspection Standards and Viewing Distance
The finished installation shall be inspected under normal lighting conditions from a normal viewing distance of approximately 1–2 metres (approximately 3–6 feet).
Imperfections that are not readily apparent or that do not significantly detract from the overall appearance when viewed from this distance under ordinary conditions are considered acceptable.
Close-range inspection (e.g., within a few centimetres), use of magnification, strong angled lighting, or inspection under specialised conditions does not form the basis for acceptance or rejection of the work.
3. Debris and Contamination
Despite industry-standard cleaning, anti-static procedures, and controlled installation practices, it is not possible to eliminate all airborne particles.
Minor dust, debris, or contaminants may become trapped under the film. Industry practice recognises that a small number of particles (commonly referenced in the region of a few particles per square metre in high-quality installations) can occur and does not constitute a defect when they are not readily visible from the standard viewing distance described above.
Larger or concentrated contamination that is clearly visible from normal viewing distance and that materially affects appearance may be addressed at the Installer’s discretion during the post-installation inspection or curing period.
4. Seams, Joints, Relief Cuts, and Edges
• Seams, butt joints, and relief cuts are often necessary, particularly on complex curves, contoured panels, bumpers, mirrors, and other three-dimensional surfaces. These are used to ensure proper adhesion, reduce tension, and maintain long-term durability.
• Seams are positioned as discreetly as practicable, preferably along natural body lines or panel breaks where possible. Completely invisible seams cannot be guaranteed.
• Small gaps at seams (typically in the low-millimetre range) or minor overlaps may be present depending on the vehicle design and coverage selected.
• Not all edges can be fully wrapped. Where full wrapping is impractical or would compromise adhesion, the film will be finished as neatly as possible. Exposed edges may collect dirt or debris over time; this is normal and is not covered by any warranty or obligation to re-apply film.
These characteristics are inherent to the product and installation process and do not constitute defects.
5. Other Acceptable Characteristics
The following are recognised as normal and acceptable:
• Minor surface texture (sometimes described as “orange peel”) inherent to certain films.
• Temporary moisture pockets, haze, or small water bubbles that typically dissipate during the curing period (usually several weeks, depending on conditions).
• Slight stretch marks, tool marks, or silvering in high-stretch areas that do not affect performance.
• Increased visibility of pre-existing paint imperfections (scratches, swirl marks, rock chips, orange peel in the paint, or contamination already present in the clear coat). PPF does not hide or correct underlying paint defects and may make them more noticeable.
• Limited edge visibility or termination lines on complex geometry.
6. Customer Acknowledgement
By authorising the installation, the Customer acknowledges that:
• A perfect, completely contaminant-free, and invisible installation is not achievable or guaranteed.
• Acceptance is based on inspection from normal viewing distance as defined above.
• The Installer has used reasonable professional skill and care consistent with industry standards.
• Any concerns must be raised promptly (ideally before collection or within a short agreed period after collection) so that reasonable remedial action, if warranted, can be considered.
7. Limitations of Liability and Warranty Scope
The Installer’s obligations are limited to the proper application of the film using professional methods. Manufacturer material warranties (typically covering yellowing, cracking, blistering, or delamination under defined conditions) apply separately and are subject to the manufacturer’s terms.
Workmanship issues that fall outside the acceptable characteristics described in these Terms may be addressed at the Installer’s reasonable discretion. Debris build-up on exposed edges or seams over time, impact damage, improper care, or normal ageing are excluded.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by applicable law.
8. General
These Terms form part of the contract for the services. They may be updated from time to time; the version provided at the time of booking or installation applies.
